The MAC3 collection was seeded by a gift of nearly 280 artworks from Jarl and Pamela Mohn’s collection, largely amassed over the last 20 years, comprised of paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media works by L.A. artists. In addition the Mohns’ gift, the Hammer Museum enhanced the MAC3 collection with 80 works previously acquired by the museum through its Made in L.A. biennials since 2012, bringing the initial total number of works in the MAC3 collection to more than 340 works. The collection will continue to grow with annual acquisitions funded through the Mohns’ endowment and jointly determined by all three museums. The MAC3 collection is available to all three museums for display, as well as loans to other museums around the world.
